Striving to be a member-driven organization
Our
member survey has just gone out via Survey Monkey to the
principal
contact within each member firm. This is an important tool for us to
gauge member satisfaction and to learn more about your business
challenges. We passionately believe that the CAA must be a
MEMBER-DRIVEN organization. Deadline for participation
is Friday, August 3rd. As always, we welcome your direct calls and e-mails throughout the year.
Design and Construction Trends Analysis
On a quarterly basis the CAA attends a gathering of industry
representatives to compare notes on data related to the design and
construction industry. Information such as materials and labor pricing,
availability of labour, type and nature of projects all serve to
identify trends in our ever-changing marketplace. This data is further
considered in context of global and regional economics and geo-political

U of A provides a peek at their capital plans
University
of Alberta recently gave the CAA an overview of their infrastructure
priorities for the coming year. Although this budget year does not
include as many major projects as in the recent past, there are still
many smaller projects that may be of interest to CAA member firms. The
university capital and renovation resources will focus on

Best Value Procurement & Project Management Seminar - August 28th
Arizona
State University professor Dr. Kenneth Sullivan, will present a full
day seminar on the Best Value Model. Firms competing in the Canadian and
U.S. markets may benefit from exposure to the Best Value Model as used
by the University of Alberta and many public and private owners.

CAA and City of Calgary conversation Earlier
this month representatives from the City of Calgary and the CAA sat
down to talk about procurement, contracts, project management and
performance of consultants. Overall it was an excellent conversation
with both sides bringing forward their challenges and suggested

Owner Education Working Group developing a strategy to share best practices
The
CAA is joining forces with industry associations and Alberta
Infrastructure to tackle the issue of education of procurement
specialists. Initially the focus of this education campaign will be
those working within the public sector (provincial and municipal

FQR Innovation Fund Call for Proposals
The
Government of Alberta is releasing the 2012 Foreign Qualification
Recognition (FQR) Innovation Fund Call for Proposals. The FQR Innovation
Fund is being offered to assist Alberta employers to recruit,
integrate, retain and develop workers with foreign-earned education,
skills and experience who are already in the province. As employers in the province, you are invited to apply.

Saskatchewan Architects Act amended by Government

SAA recently learned that Section 20 was repealed from the Architects
Act, 1996 and that Section 19 was amended by government as a part of The
